Light Rail with a dog or cat: the practical checklist
For weekend and public-holiday trips in the Light Rail network, check the carrier before buying the monthly pass.

Eligibility and equipment
- The permanent arrangement began on 1 September 2025. It applies on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, excluding Tuen Mun Voyager.
- The HK$99 electronic pass covers one dog or cat per passenger for one calendar month. Your own passenger fare is separate. Buy it through MTR Mobile and allow up to 30 minutes for collection.
- Use a fully closed and covered carrier: total length + width + height at most 170 cm, longest side at most 130 cm. No part of the animal may protrude. Pet strollers and wheeled carriers are excluded.
- Use the last door and rear area of a single vehicle; for a coupled train, use the last door of either vehicle. Follow MTR’s current boarding instructions.
Measure the actual carrier with your pet inside before planning a day out. If the dog cannot travel comfortably within these conditions, arrange a taxi or pet car. Build the whole journey within eligible services: reaching an MTR interchange does not make the next train pet-accessible.
